During the past week the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19, both in Maine and across the country, has continued to rise and in response the state and federal government have offered stronger recommendations for social distancing. This past Wednesday morning Governor Mills issued an order that, in part, prohibited groups of 10 or more from gathering. As part of a coordinated regional effort to slow the spread of this virus it is our intention to comply with this order. As such, we will be canceling our regular Sunday morning worship services, small groups, and student gatherings until such time as it seems wise to resume them.

This is uncharted territory for us as a church, and Pastor Andrew and I are doing our best to anticipate needs and serve our church family well during this strange season of separation. If you would like to talk, need help or would appreciate prayer I am always just a phone call away. My cell phone number is 207-762-2109 and my email address is joshbtate@gmail.com. This Sunday at 9:30am we will be live streaming a modified worship service on the church’s facebook account (@stateroadhcurch). I hope you can join us for that!

Years ago I read the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder to the kids at bedtime. One of Ma Ingalls’ favorite quotes that I remember from those books was, “There is no great loss without some small gain.” To be sure, these are days of great loss. Some of the losses have been trivial like canceled events and toilet paper shortages while others are serious like shuttered businesses, anxiety and a loss of corporate worship. However, in this season of great loss there does exist the potential for some small gains. The message this Sunday will be entitled “Don’t Waste Our Time Apart.” We will be exploring ways to make the most out of being alone and the unique potential of this season for growth and service.
