The Unforgiving Servant
If someone asked us to explain what it is that we believe as Christians I doubt that we could go much beyond a sentence or two without speaking of forgiveness. It goes almost without saying, but forgiveness is an idea that is so central to what we celebrate as Christians that there is no virtually no way of explaining the Gospel without explaining it. We worship a forgiver of sins, and we look upon ourselves as a forgiven people. Nevertheless, many Christians struggle to believe that they h…

Christian Growth
Pastor David hails from Cento Christiano Cultural de Guatemala (CCCG). Over the years a number of people from State Road have gotten to know Pastor David through Neighbors First projects in Guatemala or by sponsoring a child through the ministry of CCCG. Additionally, he is the brother of Roberto Alvarez whom we support through Provee International. Pastor David provides oversight to an extensive ministry designed to meet the needs of young people in various Guatemalan communities while seeking to impact them for the Gospel. For more information about that ministry check out cccguatemala.com.
The Dishonest Manager
The parable of the dishonest manager is found in Luke 16:1-9. R.C. Sproul once said about this passage that it is “universally considered by biblical scholars to be the most difficult of Jesus’ parables to understand.” William Barclay said that “this is the most puzzling parable that Jesus ever spoke.” James Montgomery Boice begins his commentary on this passage by stating flatly, “This parable has been a problem for many readers.” And John MacArthur says that “this is one of the most ast…
Mother’s Day
You’ve heard of Mary the mother of Jesus, and Sarah the mother of Isaac, and maybe you’ve even heard of Hannah the mother of Samuel or Elizabeth the Mother of John the Baptist. Each represents an inspiring example for us of faith and Motherhood, but have you ever heard of the wife of Manoah? Her story is overshadowed a bit by that of her famous son, Samson, who was kind of a colorful character. However, she is definitely someone worthy of studying. We are introduced to her in Judges 13. On this Mother’s Day lets study the life of this remarkable mother.
The Good Samaritan
Luke 10:25-37 contains the parable of the Good Samaritan. It is certainly one of Jesus’ most famous and well-known parables. Even those who are not very familiar with the Bible will know something about what it is to be a good Samaritan, but they often miss the full depth of meaning that Jesus intended when He first told this powerfully convicting parable.

Gospel Motivation
We are in week three of a four part focus on our responsibility as Christ followers to be engaged in missional living. Each year we believe it is important to re-orient ourselves in an intentional way around God’s mission. God’s mission is to redeem his whole creation, and the mission of the people of God is to be the agents of God’s blessings that in doing so we might draw close those that are far from God. Knowing the necessity for each of us to engage in sharing the life of the son t…
The Wheat and the Tares
Before you listen in, carve out some time to read the parable of the wheat and the tares found in Matthew 13:24-30 and its explanation in verses 36-43. In this message we explore this parable, seeking its meaning and its application in our lives.
Parable of the Sower
When I was a boy, my dad introduced me and my brothers to Old Time Radio programs. The era of Old Time Radio was long gone by the time I was born in 1978, but a few times a year my dad would get us cassette tapes featuring shows like George Burns and Gracie Allen, The Jack Benny Program, Edgard Bergen and Charlie McCarthy, The Great Gildersleeve and many others. I remember particularly liking a radio adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic “The Birds.” We listened to these cassettes every …
Missional Discipleship
For those of you that weren’t here last week, you are stepping into a conversation about missional living. For the rest of this month and the first Sunday in May, we are setting aside a time each Sunday to emphasize the mission of God here amongst us in a time we call Mission’s Emphasis. This year rather than an information dump about the ministries and missions we support we are looking at the characteristics of a believer engaged in missional living and it is our HOPE that in doing so we …
Missional Prayer
I said it last year as I introduced missions emphasis in 2022, but there is no better place for missions emphasis than following the act that made us all missionaries. Maybe not all “travel to another country” missionaries, but men and women who have repented and put God’s will for our lives first. Those who through obedience to God’s call enter into God’s mission to save his people in the world.
God’s mission is to redeem his whole creation, and the mission of the people of God is…
