But here’s something which we must know before we begin that discussion, the battles that the church is engaged in today that necessitate armor-wearing are part of a larger war the outcome of which was determined, ABSOLUTELY DETERMINED, on a hill outside Jerusalem nearly 2000 years ago. And you know what? Jesus won. 1 Corinthians 15:57 declares, “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
This victory belongs to all of us who have passed from death to life by grace through faith in Jesus.
Vance Havner used to tell the story of a British man who married an American girl and moved to her hometown in the Midwest. He filed to become a U.S. citizen, and on the day that his citizenship was finalized, his in-laws threw him a big party to celebrate. At one point during the party the family called upon him to make a toast, and with his glass held high he remarked, “Yesterday, the revolution was a defeat but today it is a victory.”
This is the experience of all of us who have been adopted into the family of Christ and have transferred their citizenship from this world to the Kingdom of Heaven. Although we were previously in another camp, opposed to the Lord, rebels against the throne, and DEFEATED, Jesus’ victory has become our victory by grace through faith.
