9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

It seems to me that much of the misunderstanding between Jesus and those who received Him into Jerusalem so enthusiastically on that long ago day was that they misunderstood the relationship between Zechariah 9 and 10. As they witnessed the language of Zechariah 9 being so clearly fulfilled before their very eyes they imagined that verse 10 would likewise follow immediately. That verse reads as follows:

10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
and the war horse from Jerusalem;
and the battle bow shall be cut off,
and he shall speak peace to the nations;
his rule shall be from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth.

This Sunday, I hope you can join us as we study Palm Sunday through the eyes of Zechariah. We’ll see not only the beauty of that glorious day when Jesus entered Jerusalem on His way to the cross (verse 9), but we’ll also look beyond that to a day that has been promised but has yet to be fulfilled in its fullness (verse 10).
